Please help us to find Lacey the loving home that she deserves. You will never meet a more beautiful dog – she is simply stunning, an angel both in looks and personality.
Her story is surely a sad one, but she can’t tell us what happened to her. We do know that she was found wandering the streets and was sent to a shelter – where she had an expiration date stamped on her life.
We can tell by the scars on her face that she’s had to defend herself a time or two. We know from living with her that she probably was only kept outside and that no one took the time to teach her even basic commands or how to walk on a leash. We know that innately she knows to be gentle with children and to be a good protector. We also know that she is probably part Yellow Lab and part Great Dane; she weighs 65 lbs, is fully grown and is about a year old.

Lacey - before
On October 18th a picture of this sad and lonely looking girl made its way around the internet. One look at her picture conveyed every emotion she must have been feeling – sadness, despair, resignation and fear. Within a few hours of her picture being posted there were pleas from across the country begging to save her. Because she was found as a stray she could not be adopted outright, she needed to be saved by a Rescue organization.
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving these animals from death, rescued her and they are sponsoring her. First and foremost they told her she was safe and showed her that she deserved to be loved. They gave her a bath, made sure she was up to date on all of her shots and made arrangements to have her spayed. Imagine how lucky I felt when an Angel called and asked if I could foster Lacey!!

Group nap time
She came into our lives the day after she way spayed. She was sad, lonely, confused, scared and was probably in a good amount of pain. She had absolutely no self confidence. It was quite sad. On a good day, with 2 kids and 3 dogs and many visitors, our house is overwhelming and it seemed like it might just be too much for her. We set her up in a crate where everyone could have a chance to smell her and get to know her and she could get whiffs of everyone. Thankfully all of our animals are friendly, and can’t wait for someone new to play with, and she could sense that. That was the one and only day she has ever used the crate.
With some trepidation she left the safety of her crate and ventured out to meet everyone. Charlie, the cranky patriarch of the canine family here, took one look at her and fell in love! It took every ounce of their self control but Louie and Mollie managed to contain themselves for at least a little while and not overwhelm her too much. They gently initiated her into their play and she tentatively accepted their invitation. It melted my heart to see her lying on her back, to show these two smaller dogs that she wouldn’t hurt them.

Everyone SIT!
Since that day they have become fast friends and it’s most often like a ball of fur with 6 or 8 sets of legs that whirls past me. In and out the back door, occasionally stopping at a food or water bowl – all of them at once, and then they are on their way again to find a stick or toy that they can share. It’s been heartwarming to watch Lacey learn how to be a dog and to have fun. Clearly, she had not experienced this before.
She is trying her very best to be the best dog she can be so that she can find her forever home. In one quick week she learned to sit, is working on stay and is learning to walk on a leash. She is fully housebroken and is as gentle as a lamb.
She seems to be afraid of more aggressive dogs and my guess would be that might be the cause of some of her scars. She sometimes confuses rough play with aggression so we’ve had to be careful around some other dogs. I’ve been asked if I thought she should be in a home as an only dog. After spending time with her I think she just wants to be loved and acknowledged so she would be fine as an only dog. I also think she would be all right in a home with another dog – but only one that is smaller than her and/or not territorial or aggressive. As you can see from her pictures she gets along with our brood fine but no one has ever challenged her. They do, however, use her back to stand on and she doesn’t seem to mind that too much either.
Please share, cross post and try to help us find Lacey the home that she deserves. The family that gets this beautiful girl will have nothing but a lifetime of love and loyalty.

Hi! My name is Buddy. I am a black lab/retriever mix and the vet thinks I am about 7 months old now. When you look at me, you might see the scars down my spine. About 4 months ago, someone poured acid or gasoline or something like that down my back. A little got on my head, too. You would think that I would hate people and be very distrustful. Well, I am quite resilient! I love people! I love other dogs! I play really well with cats, too! I am the most loving dog you will ever meet!
Luckily, someone from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue heard about me and my nasty bloody, painful burns. No one wanted me because I was ugly and going to be a burden financially and physically. I did not have too much going for me at the shelter. I was burned, and not so pretty, and I am black. Black dogs are more common and get put to sleep first, so I was due to be put to sleep.
In addition to my burns, I have been to the vet and had lots of things done: had a physical; been de-wormed twice because I tested positive for whipworms; had bordatella, so I got the vaccine up my nose and am now clear of that little bug; had an upper respiratory infection and got that cleared up with antibiotics; been neutered; had the DHPP and rabies vaccines; and gotten my toenails clipped. I am currently on Interceptor both as a heartworm preventative and to make sure my whipworms don’t come back. I used to walk funny on my feet because of my really bad case of malnutrition. Since going to my foster home, I have gained 15 pounds. My foster mom can no longer count my ribs like she could 5 weeks ago.
Harry is a 9 month old Doodle. He spent 4 weeks in a shelter in North Georgia. For 4 weeks he lay in a pen with no care. It was his lucky day when a wonderful lady that was looking for a Labradoodle went to check him out.
