Harry is a 9 month old Doodle. He spent 4 weeks in a shelter in North Georgia. For 4 weeks he lay in a pen with no care. It was his lucky day when a wonderful lady that was looking for a Labradoodle went to check him out.

Harry at rescue
What she saw should be on every news show in The USA. He could hardly walk as he was so thin that his ribs showed even through the mats that were infected and oozing. There was an odor worse than death. He walked with his head cocked to one side. He tried to look at the angel of mercy but he was just in too much pain. His little tail did move and he did lick her fingers just to let her know he appreciated that she would consider him. Well…. She did!
She put Harry in the car with the windows down. It was late by then so she made him comfortable for the night. In the morning our rescue group Angels Among Us Pet Rescue arranged a day spa. The groomers shaved him and what they found was the very worst of mankind! He had a huge abscess on and in his ear and he was so matted that his hair had grown into his anus. We had wondered why he could not sit. He was in too much pain to stand any grooming, so he was rushed to the vet.

Harry at rescue
This poor living creature had infections everywhere. His anal glands were so infected and his ear so bad that even when sedated he screamed in agony. He had to have general anesthesia to finish shaving him completely down. The vet said 2 more days and he would have died an agonizing death. Not an assisted one from the shelter where it would have at least been quick.

Now comes the save part! He was sent home with many, many drugs and will need to return for more surgery when he has gained some weight. He is trying so hard to walk and wag his tail. It will be awhile before the poor baby can sit. He is so grateful to have been given a second chance and is now happy in his forever home. By now half of you have stopped reading because it is just too sad…
The other half we hope will give up an extra coffee or lunch out and send money to help our rescue group give dogs like Harry a healthy, long life.
