Pet Surrender

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is not a shelter or open admission facility. We are a non-profit foster and volunteer based rescue that works to find great forever homes for homeless pets, as well as pets from owners who can no longer care for them. We do not euthanize for space and therefore can only accept pets where we have an available foster home and the funds needed for their care. We receive many requests each day and unfortunately, we can welcome only a small percentage of these pets into our program.

Before giving up your pet, consider the following: Your dog or cat would much rather spend the rest of their life with you – their family – no matter what the situation (less time, smaller living area) than they would with anyone else. Uprooting them is very hard on them, especially if they are older or have medical conditions. That’s why we try very hard to keep pets in good homes.

Please e-mail info@angelsrescue.org for resources for free pet food pantries, low cost vet care, behavioral handouts, trainer referrals, and more.

If you must surrender your pet, please know that area shelters are overflowing with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens of all ages, sizes and breeds. Pets surrendered by their owners to overcrowded shelters are at higher risk of euthanasia so if we are unable to accept your pet, please continue to contact other rescue organizations.

If your pet is elderly and has a chronic medical condition that compromises his or her quality of life, please consult your veterinarian about the best course of action before considering moving the pet to a new home.

If accepted into Angels Rescue, you lose all rights to your pet. You will not be able to visit, receive updates, or have any input into their new homes, other than the information you provide up front to better assist us in choosing a placement. Upon acceptance, you must complete an Owner Surrender Form that severs all ties between you and your pet.

We are unable to take dangerous dogs. Please consult with your veterinarian, trainer or behaviorist about options for your pet.

A donation toward your pet’s care is requested to offset the cost of vet care if your pet is not up to date on vaccinations and altered. If you are unable to contribute to the pet’s care, we will still consider your pet but we do have to be mindful of available funds at any given time.

If you still wish to surrender your pet, please complete the form with as much detail as you are able. It will speed up the decision making process and allow us to better place and care for your pet if accepted. If we have additional questions or can offer a spot to your pet, we will contact you at the phone number or email address you provide within 24 – 48 hours.
